Wedding Photography at The Portsea Hotel

13th November 2011

With the weather gods turning on yet another magical day we travelled down the Monash/Eastlink/Frankston fwy…. all the way down to Portsea for the wedding of Nadine and Pete.

A fine day for the marriage of a truly gorgeous pair. Having met them a few times prior to the day we found them easygoing, candid and absolutely lovely. Meeting them again one hour before the nuptials we found them be just the same – just a nervous version of the easygoing, candid, lovely people they are!

Nadine, a reminder of old Hollywood glamour, looked stunning in her gown. Pete, looked dapper in grey. Flanked by their bridal party they married on the lawns on the Portsea Hotel (that’s Portsea Pub to most of us) in blazing sunshine calmed by a slight sea breeze.

As with most of our weddings time flies so it wasn’t long before we had to jump in the cars for the ‘mad dash’. First stop Sorrento foreshore for the snaps in the Rotunda and quick stroll in the sand. With time being of the essence it was back to the cars to make our way to a beautiful ravine – a spot that most would never notice. Between Portsea and Sorrento we all drive past but who would think to stop? This visually aware couple certainly saw the beauty of this place and I’m so glad they did – the photos are amazing!

Although not marrying at this church Nadine and Pete adore the charming sandstone church of St Johns in Sorrento. Passing earlier in the day we noticed a wedding taking place but were fortunate the grounds were empty by the time we visited again. Taking a few shots with the church in the background was well worth doing.

Final stop, for us and the oncoming traffic was a spot on the Point Nepean road just before reaching Portsea. This is a beautiful point at the top of the slight incline where the trees reach out from either side of the road to form a canope. Making sure to get our ideas right before venturing out into the middle of the road I asked the couple to dance. To my delight Pete’s interpretation of dancing was to get the groove on rather than opt for the more traditional style, priceless.

For any of you who have frequented the Portsea pub on a sunny weekend afternoon you will understand that our couple looked rather overdressed in the beer garden as they passed through on their way to their reception upstairs. The flip side was that there seemed to be some patrons that appeared to be underdressed even for the the beer garden! It’s true you cannot buy taste.

With the formalities and wedding photos out of the way it was time for the grand entrance. Having already ‘danced in the street’ Pete let Nadine take centre stage as they made their way into the room. Nadine beautifully elegant whilst getting her funk on!

The stunning Portsea deck being the venue for the evening. The setting sun as lighting and magnificent views for 270 degrees. Perfect day.

Nadine and Pete, we can’t believe it’s almost a year since we first met you both. Thank you for inviting us to take part in your special day! We wish you both the very best for your future and think we may need to catch up for a beer when your photos are ready.

Stay tuned for some sample photos!
